During our stay in Palm Springs we took a drive down to the Salton Sea.  We always find the area interesting.  During the summer it gets almost intolerably hot and there's not too many people around.  The sea usually has a fish die-off (because of the heat) and the area sometimes gets a bad stench from the dead fish.
